Petition to President and Mrs. Bush

Please Don’t Visit Israel Now

President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, you have always been known to us as deeply sensitive and compassionate friends of the Jewish Community in the U.S. and abroad.

Surely, you understand that a one-year time limit with which to conclude such a complicated peace accord can lead to hasty action that can easily cause the wounding and killing of many innocents. We join the many who plead with you not to go to Israel. This visit will automatically fast-forward events that will very likely lead a lot more innocent Israelis being wounded or killed. The precipitous expulsion from Gaza has led to the constant bombings in Sderot which in turn have led to countless injuries and deaths. Surely, we would not countenance such a “Sderot-like peace” on our borders! Mr. President: who will take responsibility for those whose lives will be unnecessarily sacrificed, perhaps for years to come.

Please, now is not the time to go and automatically contribute to massive pressures on an already weak Israeli leadership.

Mr. President, this plea has nothing to do with peace which we all want, or politics (we take no stand) this is just about safeguarding innocent lives. We are simply pro-life.
