New York Rabbi Challenges First Couple and Vice-President Cheney at 100,000 Person Rally in Washington

The following is from Rabbi Yehudah Levin's speech given at the Right to Life rally in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Jan. 22, 2001:

President Bush, 48 hours ago you called for an America of citizens, not spectators. Here we are 100,000-plus strong and we declare to you and Mrs. Bush: Social Security reform, Medicare, national defense, education, and even illiteracy, we respectfully submit, are subservient to the most basic value of all - the Right to Life!

We may not remember Truman's inaugural address, but we certainly understand his declaration, "The buck stops here!" Your immediate predecessor understood this well and in his very first acts as President he promoted the abortion and homosexual agendas.

Mr. President, we need to see you taking commensurate action in the opposite direction. Defund Planned Parenthood, unsponsor population control groups, reinstate the Reagan policy regarding limiting military abortions.

Today we are 100,00-plus Jonahs who have arisen in the capitol of Nineveh and we cry out regarding the wickedness of abortion, homosexuality, hedonism, and pornography which have ascended before G-d. Mr. Bush, Jonah warned Nineveh that in 40 days it would be overturned and for nearly 40 days your election was almost overturned. You were victorious by the smallest of margins. Our organization, Jews for Morality, whose Rabbinic Court excommunicated my ultra-liberal co-religionist Joe Lieberman because of his support of the homosexual agenda and partial birth abortion, surely obtained for you several thousand more religious votes thanks to our many appearances on Christian and Conservative media. We thank G-d that with our country's moral future hanging in the balance, the highest court in the land reflected a very tight Heavenly decision to give our country another chance with new leadership to return us to our moral values.

Mr. President, Nineveh's leaders didn't respond to Jonah with calls for compromise or political solutions - these probably caused Nineveh's problems. We can't have Vice-Presidents being "political" in advocating homosexual unions nor are we served by lip service regarding Right to Life while abortions continue unabated. Mr. President, the question isn't what Senator Ashcroft will or won't do about abortion, it's what will President Bush actively do on a daily basis to reverse Roe vs. Wade societally and legally!

President Bush, if you lead like you're only planning to be a one-term President, acting like President Clinton did in the first and last days in office, disregarding the nay-sayers and just doing his "thing", you can turn this country around!

President Clinton heeded the cry of his brother Roger and pardoned him, Mr. Bush. The voice of the innocent blood of your brethren cry out to you from the earth. Won't you help save them?

Summon the religious leaders and the pro-life, pro-family activists to the White House as often as President Clinton sought counsel from Jesse Jackson, and then some. Demonstrate your steadfastness to G-dly values and may you be blessed to find favor in the eyes of G-d and man.
